Some Previously Relevant Aspects of Academic Life: Venia Legendi and the Status of a Private Docent at the University of Latvia (1919–1944)

The article presents the results of research on venia legendi (the right to deliver lectures at university) and status private docent University Latvia (UL) until 1944. term «private docent» was used worldwide in 18th century; it is still use Germany, Austria Switzerland. In Latvia, introduced 1860s first higher education institution established current territory – Riga Polytechnicum. terms «venia legendi» were end World War II. present study, author explains how these UL during interwar period II considering empirical data obtained course archival documents library collections. provides an overview docents working from 1919 1944 their activities this period.
